Description of the artwork «Madonna Ryazan»
The painting "Madonna of Ryazan" refers to a series of works dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Since 1999, I have been developing this theme in my paintings, writing about ten works. Basically, they have an icon-painting style, the work "Madonna of Ryazan" is made in the style of Western European medieval painting.
The plot of the picture is based on the memoirs of old residents of Ryazan, who said that in the late 30s of the 20th century in the Ryazan Kremlin on one of the window spans of the Assumption Cathedral appeared the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary. They tried to remove the image by painting it with paint, but the image appeared again the next day, as if it had not been painted over. After unsuccessful attempts at painting, it was decided to bring down part of the plaster with the image. Only after this the Image of the Most Holy Theotokos ceased to appear. After a couple of years, the Second World War began. So, the Apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary became a harbinger of war and a symbol guarding the Assumption Cathedral of the Ryazan Kremlin. The fact is that during the Nazi air raids, one of the bombs exploded near the walls of the cathedral, but it remained unharmed.
In my painting "Madonna of Ryazan" I portrayed the Most Holy Theotokos with the Baby Jesus in her arms. Against their background is the very Assumption Cathedral. The road to the temple is carpeted. The symbols on the carpet have a special meaning: on the left and on the right I have placed signs indicating "danger" - so now they indicate for example places of increased radioactive pollution. These signs tell us that avoiding the path left and right will lead to the danger of error. The road to the temple, the road to the House of the Lord, it is the same path to the Kingdom of Heaven. Walking on it you can not evade, you need to follow the covenants of the Holy Scriptures. Two Angels guard this path, they help a person to keep the right direction along the road to salvation and Eternal Life.
