All of my collages featured here on Artchive are part of a whole series of collages called 'Something from Nothing'.
All of them are created absolutely spontaneously, without compositional sketches or anything else. The beginning of any collage is always just an abstract compilation of pieces of paper in the shades and textures I like, often without even cutting them out with scissors, just tearing off pieces of paper in the right color.
A torn white edge around the contour of a piece of paper works as a kind of white drawing line and can be quite useful.
Near the end of the work - the collage always seems to form itself into some semi-abstract plot, which nevertheless has a mood and you can even discern some characters or plot.
In general, for me collage is a pure creative practice from the unconscious, try it and you! - perhaps you will be very surprised and pleased with what you get. Collage is like painting, only without colors.... Although it is quite possible to use paints in collage, but then it will be a mixed technique with all its limitless possibilities....
