Description of the artwork «Two Moroccan children sitting and playing with a turtle»

this drawing is preparatory to the painting "Les enfants à la tortue", no. 203 in Gabriel Séailles' catalog, dated 1874, and referenced at the time in the Albert Noé collection (current location unidentified). Edmond Dehodencq (1864-1887), the artist's son, produced an etching based on this painting, which can be found in G. Séailles' book (Dehodencq, l'homme et l'artiste). Edmond saw his father paint the picture, and we can naturally assume that he was particularly attached to it.
