A portraitist. Studied in Boston and London (1809). After 1810, lived in Philadelphia. The author is subtle, full of emotion and poetic portraits of children, the marked features of romanticism (portrait of Thomas Jefferson, American philosophical society, new York; "the Torn hat" 1820, Boston Museum of fine arts).
