Born January 16, 1874 in the village of Beloomut, Ryazan province.

Worked from 1894 to 1904 studied at the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture. Among the teachers were A. Arkhipov, A. M. Korin, V. A. Serov.

Lived and worked in Moscow. Participated in exhibitions of the Moscow society of lovers of the arts and the Association of traveling art exhibitions, which was a member in 1911. In 1903-1917 taught in his own Studio in 1918-1922 in VKhUTEMAS. Among his students: V. Mayakovsky, B. Johansson, D. Orlov, L. Tomasiewicz, etc.

Twenty young men arrived from the village in Ryazan Beloomut in Moscow Pyotr Kelin to get at the mother see of art education.

He studied at the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture (worked from 1894 to 1904). Among the teachers were , , . Later he lived and worked in Moscow, participating in exhibitions of the Moscow society of lovers of the arts and the Association of traveling art exhibitions, which was a member in 1911.

In the works of P. I. Kelin prior to 1917 was dominated by household compositions and portraits: "Refused" (1897), "Conversation" (1898), "At the Inn" (1901), "Night" (1906), "portrait of the daughter" (1907), "self-Portrait" (1908), "the Late hour" (1912), "Portrait of wife" (1912), "the Lady in blue (Singer K. V. Ulinici)" (1912), "woman in orange" (1913), "In the Studio" (1916).

From 1903 to 1917 he taught in his own Studio.

After 1917 the work of P. I. Kelin has not undergone any significant changes. Among his works is dominated by portraits (and not only public figures), household composition and landscapes. Call a number of works by the painter in the 1920-1940-ies: portraits N.And. Podvoyskogo (1923), V. A. Antonov-Ovseenko (1923), A. V. Lunacharsky, S. A. Lemeshev, A. Yablochkin (1939), A. P. Ktorov (1940), Vladimir Mayakovsky (1943); genre paintings and landscapes - "Summer evening" (1918), "At the piano" (1922), "Collective herd" (1930), "Ajourney" (1933), "Noon" (1944).

Some time P. I. Kelin taught at the Higher art and technical studios (1918-1922), where among his many students was recruited skill B. Johansson, A. D. and P. D. Corina, V. V. Mayakovsky, D. S. Moore.
