English Illustrator and painter who wrote in the pre-Raphaelite style. The most famous paintings of Arthur Hughes «April love» (eng. April Love 1855−56 Tate gallery, London) and «a very Long engagement» (eng. The Long Engagement).
He studied at the Royal Academy of fine arts and discovered a pre-Raphaelite reading a magazine «Rostok». In his early career, Hughes was heavily influenced by Milles, and in the same way as he portrayed Ophelia (for example, «Ophelia», 1851−53, Art gallery, Manchester) and created paintings dedicated to the works of John Keats. Later Arthur Hughes illustrated some books by George MacDonald. He left about 700 paintings and sketches, and more than 750 illustrations.
