Description of the artwork «Battle of Lepanto»

This small painting, originally located in the Church of St. Peter the Martyr on Murano, was probably ex-Voto by order of Pietro Giustiniana from Murano, who took part in the naval battle in Lepanto on October 7, 1571. Then, thanks mainly to the Venetian ships, the Turkish fleet was defeated. At the bottom of the picture is a battle, and at the top, saints Peter, Roch, Justin and Mark pray to the Virgin Mary for the victory of the Christian fleet. In response, an angel throws burning arrows into Turkish ships.
