Georgievich Platunov

(1887, Cheremis-Turek (Mari-Turek) Urzhum district, Viatka province (now the territory of the Republic of Mari El) – 1972, Leningrad)

Russian Soviet artist. A Member Of The Society Of Chingistau. Professor of the Academy of arts, author of a manual on the drawing. Honored art worker of the RSFSR (1954).

Started painting under the guidance of his father, a talented painter self-taught. In 1906

at the end of the Kazan art school he entered the Academy of fine arts,

where he studied under the guidance of professors p. P. Chistyakov and V. E. Savinsky.

In the First world war was a war artist. After the revolution he taught drawing at the working clubs, performed a series of portraits of famous artists.

In 1925 – 1931 made several trips on the Northern and southern Urals, Abkhazia, Turkestan, on the Pechora and Kamchatka. The sketches created during his travels, formed the basis for monumental works. In 1937 the icebreaker "Sadko" visited

in the Arctic.

During the Second world war, the artist worked in the besieged Leningrad, where he created the famous series of gouaches "Leningrad blockade". In the postwar years, the artist turned

the genre of landscape.

Work Platonova are in the Russian Museum, the Tretyakov gallery, Kaluga regional art Museum and other museums and private collections in Russia and abroad.
