An auditor student at the Academy of fine arts from 1841 to 1850 he Received medals: in 1846 – 2 silver for the painting: "Boy with a mess"; in 1850, – the title of class artist painting. Supernumerary in 1853 and 1854 full-time student Mosaic Branch; in 1859 – the title of the artist mosaic institution; in 1866 – the title of class artist of 3 degrees for mosaics; in 1868 – class artist of 2 degrees (the last two got the title for his work for St. Isaac's Cathedral). At the Paris world exhibition in 1867, he was awarded the bronze medal for mosaic work.
