The artist's father, the watchmaker Friedrich Gotthard Baganz, arriving in the Northern capital of Mitau in the first quarter of the nineteenth century, engaged in installation, cleaning and fix to the Palace hours. His eldest son, Frederick Henry, called subsequently Russian lad Fedor Fedorovich, received his primary education in the Main school of the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of saints Peter and Paul. For was presented to Emperor Alexander II album of 80 sheets of watercolors made during this arduous expedition, F. F. Baganz was awarded the title of the artist 1-th degree and diamond ring with ruby. However, it has become one of the latest pleasant events in his life. In 1869 he lost a dearly beloved wife, dead in childbirth.
Wanting to somehow escape from his grief, Fyodor goes to a new voyage, which became fatal for him in September 1871 he was taken to the Marine hospital of the city of Nikolaevsk-on-Amur with a terrible diagnosis: "paralysis and dementia, with occasional clearings of consciousness." Old father after much hassle, delays and tearful requests for assistance are able to finally deliver a sick son to St. Petersburg, where he soon dies.
