Nikolay
Dmitrievich Bartram

Russia • 1873−1931

Born in the village Semenovka of the Lgovskiy district of the Kursk region. He studied at the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture (1889 - 1891) in V. I. Baksheev, I. A. Martynov. In the early 1900's illustrated children's books, and drew for children's comic magazines "Firefly", "Jester" etc. the Author drawings and sketches of various wooden products and toys. He performed the illustrations for the books "the fairy Tale about glorious Tsar Pea and his beautiful daughters" D. N. Mamin-Sibiryak (1918) and "the Tale of Tsar Saltan" by Alexander Pushkin (1923). Was the organizer of the Museum samples at the Handicraft Museum in Moscow (1907, now a Museum of folk art) and toy Museum (1918, Director in 1921 - 1923), Took part in the work of the Commission for the protection of monuments. Did much for the revival of folk arts and crafts; have a large collection of objects of applied art worcestershi province (donated by the artist to the Archaeological Commission of the Kursk province, is stored in the Kursk regional local lore Museum), opened in the family estate Semenivka educational carpentry workshop for children of nearby villages, which was led for 10 years (1893 - 1903), he taught at the handicraft workshops of the Moscow province Zemstvo (1907 - 1916), courses art toys at the Moscow technical school of cottage industries (1926 - 1931). Wrote a number of articles about art toys and folk art. Received as the author of two gold medals of the International exhibition of decorative arts and modern art industry in Paris (1925) for the exhibits to class IX "Painting" and class XVI "Games and toys". He was buried in Moscow at Novodevichy cemetery.
