Graduated MGHI them. V. I. Surikov in the workshop of Sergei Gerasimov. He worked as a painter and Illustrator of Russian literature. Worked mainly in book graphics, cooperated with the Belarussian state publishing house, Goslitizdat. Designed and illustrated books by Ivan Turgenev "on the Eve" (1949, original in the Tretyakov gallery), "Rudin" (1952).

Participant of exhibitions since 1945 by B. M. Basov was exhibited at the International book fair in Leipzig (1959).

Solo exhibition was held in 1961 in Moscow.

Work by B. M. Basov stored in the state Tretyakov gallery, state Russian Museum, the State Literary Museum, the Museum of A. Gorky in Moscow and many regional museums.

The famous book Illustrator, graphic artist and painter of the Soviet era. In 1933 he graduated from the Vitebsk art and graphics College. From 1938 to 1948 he studied at the Moscow Art Institute. V. I. Surikov (diploma work "At the art gallery", headed by S. V. Gerasimov). Widely known Benjamin Bass received a series of illustrations to the works of Russian classical literature (L. N. Tolstoy, A. P. Chekhov, I. S. Turgenev, F. M. Dostoyevsky) and the works of Soviet writers about the great Patriotic War ("They fought for the Motherland", "the Living and the dead", "the Destiny of man").
