Marine painter, born 4 January 1867 in the monastery village there in one and a half miles from Mologa in a peasant family. With the permission of parents and village society in 1885 went to work as a painter (gruntovka) at the Saint Petersburg Imperial Academy of arts. In 1886 entered the Academy as a volunteer in the Department of painting. From the Academy and Chief of Naval Staff appointed in world expedition under the leadership of Vice-Admiral I. A. Shestakova. By the time of graduation from the Academy in 1894, he made three world cruises, participated in numerous campaigns of the Russian commercial and military ships in the Black and Baltic seas, went to the Russian squadron to the shores of America for the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the American continent by Christopher Columbus. For a number of works, executed by order of Nicholas II, got as a gift from the Emperor's estate in the Crimea. He died on 14 Jul 1903 in Alupka. After the artist's death was held five major exhibitions of his paintings. The latter of which is in the Central naval Museum in St. Petersburg in 1997 (according to the materials of the Museum and the State archive of the Navy).
