Vasilyevich Bugaevsky-Grateful (Bogaevsky)

Creativity and the long life of Ivan Semenovich (Vasilyevich) Buhaevsky-Grateful (Bogaevsky, Fertile) is known at the present time little. Pupil of Academy of fine arts (1779-1794). After the Academy received the title of master and the sword. But only in 1822, was awarded the title of "appointed" in academics for the Portrait of a hussar officer. By this time wrote several extant portraits are in museums around the country. Among them the Portrait of Mikhail Kutuzov (1813), self Portrait (1814), Unknown (1816), portrait of a hero of the war of 1812 major-General D. M. Yuzefovich (1818). Was a good friend of A. G. Venetsianov, who wrote the portrait Buhaevsky, now located in the Tretyakov gallery. Interestingly, it is the painting of "the earnest of Tronji" (1818), a copy of a painting by A. Venetsianov "Kapitoshka", which confirms the friendly relations of the two painters.

In 1824 the artist for "Portrait of the Professor of painting A. I. Ivanov" was awarded the title of academician, spoke about the growth of skill Buhaevsky-Grateful. Famous portraits of V. L. Borovikovsky (1825) and Kochubey (1837) indicate the same. Like many artists of the time, I. S. Bugaevskiy took part in the decoration of churches under construction and writing of icons for them.

Finally, I. S. Bugaevskiy-Grateful was an excellent draughtsman. His satirical drawings were a well known contemporary painter artistic community. Some of them can be found in our time at the State Russian Museum.
