Biography and information

Was born in Kyiv. Primary and secondary education received in St. Petersburg. In 1922 – 1926 he studied at the Berlin Academy of arts. In 1926 he moved to France. Was a pupil of the famous representative of cubist Andre Lhotte, 1929 – a student of the Academy Ranson in Paris. Participant of exhibitions of the Autumn salon (1928, 1929), group and solo exhibitions in the Academy (1935, 1938, 1939). Works of this period were a beautiful and graphic image women's decorated models in symbolist or cubist manner. In 1939 – 1942 was in various concentration camps, where in difficult circumstances, continued to do drawings in pencil and pen. With TB and deeply traumatized by a stay in camps for a long period had to be treated and refuse to work. Only in 1961 the artist returned to the development of abstract painting, watercolor and gouache. From 1969 he taught at the école des Beaux-arts in Paris, where he taught the course of technology of painting. In 1987 was the last lifetime retrospective exhibition. Two posthumous exhibitions were held in 1995 and 2001.
