Biography and information

Born in Smolensk, Russia. He studied at the private art school in St. Petersburg, from 1907 – in Paris, at the Academy of Matisse, he attended the académie La Palette. Exhibited work at the Salon d'automne and the Salon of independents. In 1910 he became one of the organizers of the Russian literary Islands in Paris. In 1912 in his Studio in Montparnasse organized Free Russian Academy, or the Academy of M. Vasilyeva, which is frequented by avant-garde artists. From 1916 began to create grotesque doll-portraits in the 1920s he worked on theatrical costumes and masks for the Swedish ballet R. de Mare, puppet theatre "Raduga" took part in the organization of charity balls CPX in Frantsiyu. Held several solo exhibitions. Participated in the Exhibition of Russian art in London (1921), International exhibition of decorative arts in Paris (1925), the world Congress of puppets in Chicago (1931). Was a prominent figure in the last exhibition of the futurists "0. 10" in Petersburg and "Store" in Moscow. From 1938 she lived in Kan-sur-Mer, France. In 1946 he returned to Paris during 1946 – 1957 participated in the Salons of Independent. From 1953 lived and worked in Nogent-sur-Marne, France.
