Juhanowicz Vahtra

Studied in 1912-13 at the Art school of the city of Riga Viktor Purvita, then in the years 1913-16 at School society for the encouragement of arts in Petrograd from 1918 at the Academy of arts of V. Shukhaev and Petrov-Vodkin. In the early 20-ies Jaan Vahtra becomes the first Chairman of the "group of Estonian artists" - an avant-garde group, bringing together the Cubists, the constructivists. Although Jaan Vahtra was the leader of the group only until 1925 and moved later from geometrism in his work, in his later, more realistic works manifested an analytical approach to the form.
