The most known and recognized Estonian artist, a highly versatile schedule, with a strikingly individual style and manner of expression, a virtuoso in many techniques, an excellent draughtsman. He studied 1915-18. at the Tallinn school of industrial art, in 1919-24 he was at art school "Pallas" in Tartu; improved in 1922-23 in the class skill Dresden Academy of fine arts. He lived in 1925-39 and 1946-54. in Paris, in 1939-44 – in Tallinn, 1944-46 in Vienna and Stockholm. His personal exhibitions were in Tallinn and Tartu, Paris, Strasburg, Johannesburg, Amsterdam, Vienna, Hamburg, Freiburg, göttingen, Marburg, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Helsinki, Buenos Aires, new York, new haven, Springfield, Petersburg, Riga, Kaunas, Vilnius, Yerevan.
