Painter. Member of the Union of artists of the USSR.

He studied at the evening Department of the Riga city craft uchilishe (1925 – 26). He graduated from the workshop to the species of painting in the Latvian Academy of arts (1935) Professor V. Purvitis with diploma work "Tornakalns".

The artist has participated in exhibitions of society "Zaļā zeme" (1933), society of artists Mucosally (1935), Culture Foundation of Latvia (1935/36, 1937/38), and also participated regularly in the Soviet art exhibitions.

Personal exhibitions are organized in Riga (1942, 1973, 1984, 2002, 2004), Jurmala (1977).

Yu Vilumainis was a laureate of the Culture Foundation (1944). In 1979 he received the title Honored art worker of the Latvian SSR.

He was a member of the Union of artists since 1946.

The artist was one of the executors of scenery Liberti L. and P. Rozlapa in LNO (1935). He worked as a drawing teacher in Rezekne (1937 – 38) and Riga (1938 – 44). Yu Vilumainis was the Director of the school of applied arts in Kuldiga (1945), a teacher at the Riga school of applied arts (1945 – 46, 1949 – 53) and in the Riga art school by J. Rozentals (1953 – 69). He was also the Director of the art secondary school Latvian Academy of art (1946 – 47). 1953 69 years worked in the plant "Māksla".

Work Yu Vilumainis are in private collections and museums in Russia, Japan, Austria, Switzerland, USA, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, France, Sweden, Estonia, Lithuania etc.
