After graduating from the Academy of fine arts was enlisted in the expedition of I. Billings (1785 -1793). Sailed in the Okhotsk and Bering seas and in the Gulf of Alaska, accompanied Billings to the journey of the Chukchi Peninsula, participated in the campaign of G. Sarychev in Eastern Siberia.

During the journey, drawing nature, people, their dwellings, clothes, utensils, weapons and vehicles. After returning to Saint Petersburg (1794) he served in the Admiralty drawing. His fate is unknown.
