(1883, p. Shmakove, Smolensk province - 1955, Moscow). Initial art education has received in the Smolensk and Petersburg. In 1905 he moved to Moscow, with 1906 he studied at K. Yuon. In 1907 he entered the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture where he studied under A. Korin, N. Kasatkin, A. Vasnetsov, L. Pasternak, A. Arkhipov and V. Serov. In 1910 he studied in Paris with A. Matisse. In 1912 he studied at the Academy of fine arts. In the 1910-1940-ies he worked on a series devoted to memorable places of Smolensk, connected with the life of Mikhail Glinka. Illustrated children's books for publishing houses in Moscow ("the seasons" in 1924, "Beasts" 1927, "the Kids" - 1929 etc.). Works of the artist are stored in the Central Museum of musical culture, in many regional museums and in private collections in Russia
