One of the founders of the Palekh miniature, honored artist of Russia (1933). Based on the traditions of Palekh icon painting, Stroganov and Yaroslavl schools has created a special style of Palekh miniature tempera painting on papier-mache. Born in Moscow in the family of icon-painter, a native of Palekh, I. P. Golikova.

Born on 8 (20) January 1887 in Moscow. Honored art worker of the RSFSR (1935). Member of the Union of artists of the RSFSR in 1934. Hereditary icon painter. Since 1894, lived in the village of Palekh. In 1897, enrolled in training in the workshop of N. M.Safonova. Since 1901 he worked in icon-painting workshops of Moscow and St. Petersburg, he studied at the school of technical drawing of Baron A. L. Stieglitz. In 1906, he painted the Church of the Svyatoozerskaya monastery from the workshop of M. L. Parilov. In 1907-1911, he took military service. In 1911-1914, he worked in the workshop of N. M.Safonova in Palekh, painted the Church in Kazan. In 1914-1917 participated in world war I, composed of 27 Siberian regiment, was wounded. In 1918-1919 he worked in the universal Education of the city of Shui (drew posters), then in the theatres of Shuya, Kineshma, Ivanovo-Voznesensk, Kostroma (scenery for productions of "the Forest", "Thunderstorm", "snow maiden", "Boris Godunov", "Russian wedding", "the Doctor in spite of himself").

In 1922 in Moscow in A workshop,by A. Glazunov performed the first work on papier-mâché, marking the beginning of the Soviet Palekh miniature painting, outlining its main features, what, in essence, opened the way for a new art. The immediate initiator of the Palekh artel of ancient painting (4 December 1924). Died after a long illness on 30 March 1937 and is buried in Palekh.

Painting of I. I. Golikov is dynamic, with a variety of subjects, the wealth of compositional solutions, color saturation flowing tones. Worked without any preliminary drawings. Had not confined the scope of the craft, his interest in art was broad and deep.

Bldae place in his work took work on "the Word about Igor's regiment", a special edition of which (Moscow-Leningrad: Akademia, 1934) has not only created a series of illustrations, but also wrote by hand the entire text. Worked on the themes of the works of A. S. Pushkin "Boris Godunov", "the Tale of Tsar Saltan". Themes of works: folklore, literature, history, modern, rustic motives, revolutionary, battle, three, hunting, ornaments. Engaged in easel painting, theatrical-decorative art, painting on porcelain, enamel, book illustration. Participated in exhibitions since 1923. Just wrote about 1000 works of lacquer miniature.

Works of I. I. Golikov stored in museums: gmpi, the state Russian Museum, state Tretyakov gallery, Umgeni, PIM, SHAMS, Vyatka OXM, OXM Ivanovo, Irkutsk OC, NGKHM, AIIMS, CMRI, the State art Museum of Belorussia, the Russian Museum of A. S. Pushkin "Moika 12", the State Museum of A. M. Gorky. In the centre of Moscow, a monument to I. I. Golikov. It is named after one of the streets of Palekh. In 1968 Palekh opened the house-Museum of Golikova.
