Description of the artwork «Spring. White Spaniards»

"Spring. White Spanish flu" – picture of the Spanish cycle. In the Spain Natalia Goncharova came in 1916 with the ballet Russes – they are artist Mikhail Larionov (her friend, mentor, lover, companion, husband) painted the decorations. This country has made the artist a strong impression and was for many years a source of inspiration. A series of "Spanish" is one of the most striking facets of talent Goncharova. And, by the way, she appreciated the descendants in material terms. Futuristicheskaya "Spanish Flu" in 2010 was sold at London auction Christie's for 10.7 million dollars.

Natalia Goncharova wrote "Spanish girls" in different styles: futurism, cubism, expressionism, Cubo-futurism( 1, 2, 3)

"The white Spaniard" is a truly Grand spectacle. The words of a French journalist, quoted by Marina Tsvetaeva's essay about Goncharova, characterize the paintings of this series in General and this in particular: "Yes, it's not women, that's cathedrals!".

Her Spanish is not just Spanish women, it is a mixture of human and superhuman, above human. Handsome, tall, really soborovanie, wrapped by foam of lace spring Spaniard in this painting are fascinating and seem to require the viewer to also extend in a string, to be worthy of their witness. Depicted on the background of flowering trees women themselves is the height of the trees. Graceful, strong, tender "lace the citadel" as they were called , Tsvetaeva, seem indestructible and eternal. A darker background at the bottom of the canvas to the top of the switches to the lights.

It is interesting to compare the transparent version "Spring" Mikhail Larionov with Spanish in the spring of Goncharova. Both pictures fit the definition of "shining", "lace", but in comparison very clearly visible different kinds of paintings. If "Spring" seems like a dream, compared to the "White Spaniards" Goncharova rather, all other risks being unrealistic, not real.

Goncharova gave his Spanish paintings a kind of ritual, the spirit of mystery. Is these Spanish girls can be called "dancers"? Not about the dance, and the magical rite are relevant here. "The white Spaniard" formal – girls in the spring garden, but there is still the feeling that we captured the episode of the heavenly, the mystery of the mystery. And "under the shadow of young girls in flower" is going to something much more ambitious than "meeting women at the spring". Maybe that's why it seems obvious that "just a man" next to them would have been far below them.
