Painter, draftsman and printmaker-etcher. Despres was born in, studied at the Düsseldorf Academy of fine arts (1872-1877) at the E. E. Ducker and Paris. In 1884 awarded the title of "Honorary free member of the St. Petersburg Academy of fine arts" Participated in exhibitions in St. Petersburg in 1884 Wrote scenes from the life of Estonian peasants, landscapes and paintings on mythological subjects. His works are in State Russian Museum ("the Collection of potatoes in Estonia"), the museums of Omsk, Stavropol, Tallinn, Riga.
