Biography and information

German painter, a native of Hamburg. In 1785 at the invitation of Catherine II moved for permanent residence to Russia, where he was a lecturer at the Academy of arts (since 1794 a Professor). He painted portraits and paintings from Russian history. In 1804, the second time he entered the Academy of fine Arts drawing teacher.
