Russian painter. He was born in Tikhvin. Studied in the Petersburg Academy of Arts (1826-31). Received medals: in 1829 - 2 silver; in 1830 - 1 silver; in 1831 - the title of a free artist "for written from life painting"; in 1833 was elected in the "assigned to"; from 1857 academician for "Portrait of the Vice-President of the Academy of fine Arts gr. F. I. Tolstoy. In 1836-37 was taught drawing by M. Lermontov. In 1842-48 he taught at the Drawing school of the society for the encouragement of arts. In his modest and truthful portraits, genre scenes and interiors were close venetsianovskoy school ("Room of the house Tomilova...", 1833, Odessa art Museum).

Rus. the artist; from 1857 — Acad. painting. According to its art. interests belonged to the circle of A. G. Venetsianov. L. Z. met in St. Petersburg with relatives Filosofova and becoming an officer, he began taking his art lessons. Z. is the author of two portraits of L., characterized by the realism of the performance and is quite reliable (both signed and dated by the artist). The first g — man Petrograd. Hussars, written in early 1837, to link the poet to the Caucasus (oil on cardboard, the state Tretyakov gallery); the second — in civilian clothes — in 1840 (oil on cardboard; Museum of the Pushkin house). It was felt (N.
