Vasily Semyonovich Sadovnikov (1800-1879) - watercolourist and graphic artist, self-taught serf, belonged to Princess NP Golitsyna. He received his freedom in 1838, after the death of the princess, already being a very famous artist. He received the title of free non-class artist in the same 1838. Self-taught, "engaged in perspective painting by himself." He acquired the skill of a watercolorist by painting other people's engravings and lithographs. Later, at the Academy of Arts, he was a student of M. N. Vorobyov. Academician of the Academy of Arts (1852). On behalf of the emperors Nicholas I and Alexander II, he performed many views of the Winter Palace, with parades and reviews taking place in front of it, the hall of this palace, as well as country palaces with their parks. He worked a lot for the "Commemorative Book" published by the General Staff; painted on stone for lithograph publishers. A master of precise details of the city landscape and the depiction of interiors. Performed many types of St. Petersburg, Moscow, Revel, Vilna, Helsingfors, Novgorod, Tambov.
