Description of the artwork «Girl with a parrot»

In the picture "Girl with parrot" depicted Agapova Irina-Sokolova, a Parisian friend of Robert Falk. Close friend Falk had increased weakness for women. Known history of the creation of the portrait, told by the heroine. Irina came to the artist, she was dressed in red and blue pullover, and Falk immediately wished to write it. Parrot papier-mache by pure chance was at hand and was also captured.

Robert Falk finished the portrait over a few sessions, which was not peculiar to him – he's not one of those who "went to the canvas and wrote". It could months to think over the little landscape, carefully calculate what shade of the desired color must be heard on these two centimeters, and some around them. Long mixed color, intently worked with a palette for that one smear, with pinpoint accuracy, making him instantly clear the palette, because for the next section you will need to breed a different alchemy.

In the Donetsk art Museum and watercolor sketch for this painting "The girl in the blue dress" on which is also depicted struck the artist's combination of blue and red in the image of Irene.

The portrait painted in typical Falk manner, when the feeling of lightness is created not by the introduction of light into the picture, and skillful, masterly possession of color. Red and blue and shades of them form the basis of the color palette. Deep blue with a purple shimmer background and a dark purple edging sweaters, soft blue and muted color of the skirt, the rhythmic repetition of blue and red in color parrot in the hands of the girls. The whole picture is filled with combinations and weaves of blue and red, wooden chair and light brown hair set off this Symphony. Ehrenburg about portraits Falk said that what the writer has written would be a lot of pages, Falk achieves color, yet manages to convey a palette of all the most important.

The main feeling from the picture – the softness, harmony, tranquility and characteristic of the paintings of the Paris period is a feeling of sadness and longing (1, 2, 3).

Robert Falk does not use the methods of descriptive psychology does not seek to reflect in the portrait "life story", deep feelings, what the character thought, and what will you do, when you have finished posing. There are only feelings and States, all subject to them and so they passed very deep and expressive. Wrote Lee Falk portraits, landscapes or still lifes, the main method was an instant immersion in the image, and not thinking about it. Falk said: "I only know what I see. I perceive with the eyes". And the reason, according to him, he used only paint a picture to check if everything was right. That is why his paintings are disturbing sensations, they are not sensitive, as, for example, Mashkov, but they "oschuschatelnoy" that seems to affect not the external senses, and internal, mental.
