He studied at the Academy of arts in the class of M. A. Shishkova, graduated from the course in 1883 After studying at the Academy he became an assistant decorator, 1885 - Director and chief designer of the St. Petersburg Imperial theatres. Participated in the design of the Mariinsky, Hermitage and Alexandrinsky theatres, the Bolshoi theater in Moscow, for which he performed the painting of the curtain in the sketch of M. I. Bocharova (1896). Full member of the Society of Russian watercolors, founding member of the Russian artistic and industrial society in St. Petersburg (1904-1917) and the Professional Union of artists-decorators in Petrograd (1917). The author of the sketches of scenery, theatrical costumes, portrait sketches of theatrical figures.
