Biography and information

Schedule Nar thin USSR (1973), academician of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1973). He graduated from Moscow. VKHUTEIN (1930). Participant of exhibitions since 1932. Since 1936 post. al. J. "Crocodile" in Moscow. Funny ill. to children's books., production. Gogol, Saltykov-Shchedrin, Mayakovsky; easel drawings and watercolors on contemporary themes, cartoons, satirical. posters and other work.

The artist was born in the district Ukrainian city of Elizavetgrad (Kirovograd). In 1921, from the military unit, Kanevsky was sent to study at VKHUTEMAS and in 1924, after graduating from the labor school, he was accepted to his graphic faculty. The first drawings of Kanevsky appeared in print in the same 1924, in the journal “Atheist at the Machine”. In the late twenties he constantly worked in the Pioneer and Give magazines, in the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, and in the Crocodile since the mid-30s. Many generations of our fellow citizens grew up on books illustrated by this artist. Drawings to the “Golden Key, or The Adventures of Pinocchio” by A. N. Tolstoy, saw the light in the late 40s and since then reprinted repeatedly, organically combined with the text of the book, full of fabulous charm and crafty humor. In those same years, illustrations were made for Moydodyr and the Cockroach by K. I. Chukovsky, a little later, the Cat's House and Such a Scattered by S. I Marshak, books by A. L. Barto and S. V were illustrated. Mikhalkov, Satire by V.V. Mayakovsky, The Merry Family and Vitya Maleev at School and at Home N. N. Nosova ...

 

In addition to book and magazine drawings, traditionally representing the rich creative heritage of Aminadav Kanevsky, his easel works of the 1930s-1960s, almost freely known to the viewer, freely and confidently made in the watercolor technique, were preserved. These things reveal the personality of a famous artist from a very unexpected perspective, revealing in him a master of the lyrical landscape and a talented portrait painter.
