In 1939 Mikhail Kozell graduated from Ilya Repin Institute in the I. E. Repin, Isaak Brodsky workshop.

He studied of Mikhail Bernshtein, Arcady Rylov, Alexander Lubimov, Vladimir Serov.

Participant of exhibitions since 1949.

Member of the Leningrad Union of artists since 1962.

A master of landscape painting. More than forty years (1948-1991) taught at the secondary school of fine arts (now the Art Lyceum named after B. V. Ioganson).
