Biography and information

Alexander Osipovich Koritskii (1818 – 1866) – Russian painter and copyist. Born in the family of an engineer-inventor. Oleksandr korytskyy first went in his father's footsteps and entered the Institute of the corps of engineers of ways of communication, but after attending classes of the Imperial Academy of arts discovered his love of painting. Training courses are held at a famous artist Karl Briullov. In 1842 Koritskii was awarded a silver medal for the painting "Diogenes in the barrel", and after a while his sketch of "Orpheus displays Evridiku from hell" received a positive mark from the Council of the Imperial Academy of arts.

The following year the artist was busy working on a program for a gold medal of 2 advantage, but the result was silver. Also, in 1844 Alexander Osipovich taught the fine art of James Whistler, who later reached the heights in painting.

Especially was Koritsky drawings from nature, for which he was awarded another medal. A year later, the master of a brush has created the sketch "Vulcan forges the weapons to Achilles in the presence of Thetis", for which he received another medal, this time gold.

In the spring of 1853 Alexander Osipovich still fired from military service. By the time the artist managed to rose to the rank of captain. All subsequent years Koritskii served as assistant to the head of the second Department in the Hermitage.
