The German battle painter and engraver, pupil of J. Fisher. Worked partly in imitation of Bourguignon, Lembke, and Tempesta, partly using their own sketches from nature. In 1692 he visited Venice and then spent some time in Rome. Upon returning to Germany, settled in Augsburg. Among the representatives of battle painting, R. holds a place of honor. Engravings by this artist, depicting primarily military and hunting scenes, in the same degree as painting, testify to his love for nature and the effort to delve deeply into it.

In 1692 he visited Venice and then spent some time in Rome. Upon returning to Germany, settled in Augsburg. During the siege of the latter, had the case clearly acquainted with the General course and individual episodes of the battle. Among the representatives of battle painting, R. holds a place of honor; his works are distinguished by a confident and correct drawing, composition, full of life and fire, the beauty of the whole. In activities of R. there are three periods: in the initial predominant advantage of the flavor that the average pattern and the last pattern and paint quite reach mutual harmony. Three sons R.: George Philip (1701-1774), Christians (1708-1781) and Jeremias-Gottlob (1710-1772), were engravers, and worked black style. Particular success enjoyed the battle scenes Christian: they pechatana paint brown tones.
