Description of the artwork «Seated Nude»

The beauty of the female body has always attracted Amedeo Modigliani. Unlike other artists, he transferred to canvas the smooth contours of the figures not just dry recording what he saw, but also giving each character special, inherent emotions. His Nude is not abstract images, and very real portraits in which the viewer sees beautiful women, endowed with character and feelings.

One of the favorite subjects of Amedeo Modigliani in the Nude is "Seated Nude". The artist has created dozens of sketches and paintings that are similar name. Most of them are done in warm colours and is devoid of any corners and clearly drawn details. We offer to your attention a pencil sketch by Amedeo Modigliani "Seated Nude", created by the painter in the last years of his work.

Between 1911 and 1913, Modigliani was fascinated by the explanation of the caryatids — columns in the form of female figures supporting a cornice or a balcony. He was fascinated by their austere grace, in particular, the artist drew the statue from his head with his hands. In the accompanying figure, "Seated Nude" by Amedeo Modigliani we see a young girl who is sitting on the couch, taking a relaxed posture. Her hands thrown back behind his head, resting on a long neck that makes her look like the ancient statues of the caryatids, which support kuvshinovsky decorative elements of the building. The girl's eyes half closed, she leans back into the cushions of the couch, the outline of which is marked with subtle touches. From the composition exudes calm and tranquility.

The entire drawing is made with a few sure lines. Particularly impressive is the ease with which Amedeo Modigliani outlined the contours of the arms, hips and head girl: it seems like "Seated Nude" painted a single stroke of a pencil without any corrections. That level of skill the artist has managed to achieve with lessons in a private Academy in Paris that Modigliani visited in 1908. Sketching on paper the contours of the body Nude models, the artist wanted to experience the inner world of the models and pass it into your drawing.

Drawing the female Nude, Modigliani wanted to give the audience his admiration for the grace and beauty of the human body. As a rule, he portrayed the model to the hips, emphasizing the bust and waist. Most of the sketches, such as "Seated Nude" by Amedeo Modigliani, and left the pencil sketches, but despite this, each of them is a true masterpiece of fine art made in the Nude a true genius.
