Vladimirovich Lazursky

Russia • 1909−1994

He was born in Odessa. He graduated from the Odessa Institute of fine arts (1925--30).

He also worked in animation, applied graphics, design exhibitions. He has designed more than 300 books, many of which became classics of book art.

In 1957--62. by order of the Department of new fonts of the scientific research Institute of polygraphic mechanical engineering on the basis of deep research on the Italian fonts of the Renaissance (Griffo, Talence) and the Russian typographic heritage of the XVIII century created a stacked font Lazursky Headset for literature and publications on art, which was awarded the Gold medal of the International exhibition of book art (IBA) in Leipzig in 1959, the Second Gold medal Lazursky got at the same show for graphic sheet "Best poem of the country."

Font Lazursky were recruited in the printing Officina Bodoni George. Mardersteig (Verona) Russian text unique editions of Pushkin's "the bronze horseman" (1968) and N. In. Gogol's "the Overcoat" (1975) in Russian and Italian.

Conducted theoretical and graphical analysis of handwriting of the Charter of the Ostromir Gospels of the XI century (1941), the first printed Cyrillic alphabet XVI century (1946) and font of the inscriptions on the column of Trajan (1958).

For outstanding contribution to book design was awarded the Gutenberg Prize of the Council of the city of Leipzig (1975). Personal exhibition in Moscow in 1979 and 1989.

50--60 years was Chairman of the Artistic Council of the Studio of applied graphics Combine graphic art of the artists Fund of the RSFSR.

The participant of the great Patriotic war.

Author of several articles and books ("Aldus and the Aldine", Moscow, 1973; "the path to the workbook. Memories of the artist", Moscow, 1985).

He died in Moscow.
