Traditional Russian artist Ernst-Nicholas-Johann Ernestovich Lissner in adulthood came to the Academy of fine arts, where he studied from 1900 to 1908. He was awarded the title of artist for the painting with an unusual name: greetings to you, heroes of labor. In 1909, Ernest Ernestovich already a party to XXXVII of the Exhibition of the Association of traveling art exhibitions. In subsequent years, were included in different associations of artists, such as the Society of artists "Free creativity" (1911-1918).
After the October events of 1917 and the Civil war, E. E. Lissner continued to work and to participate actively in the turbulent social and artistic life of the first decade of Soviet power. In the 1920-ies he was a member of the Association "Art workers" (1925-1928), a group of artists "Wing" (1926-1928), the Society of artists named after I. Repin (1924-1929). Ahead loomed the unified organization of the Country of the Soviets — the Union of artists of the USSR.
