Biography and information

(1906, Vitebsk – 1975, Moscow)

Writer, cinematographer (17 works), the artist.

Coming from a family of Jewish entrepreneurs. In the early 20-ies, after his family moved to Moscow, entered the forest Institute, but a year later, leaving school at the huntsman, he became a student of VGIK. After graduating from this University in 1927, received the "Mosfilm" as an assistant cameraman. Soon he directed his first film – "the Law of life" (written by A. Avdeenko, Directors

Alexander Stolper and Boris Ivanov). After watching the film Stalin, who managed to win recognition from the public, were forbidden.

In June 1941, the Rubashkin volunteered in the militia. After two months was discharged because of aggravated asthma and along with the "Mosfilm" went to the evacuation in Alma-ATA, where he made a film "the Guy from our city" and "Wait for me".

Upon returning from the evacuation got under dismissal in connection with developing the country's fight against "cosmopolitans." He earned a living photographing, writing scripts for popular science films, the creation of commercials and puppet stories for the "Diatto". After the death of Stalin back in a great movie. Painting started in 1958 during the filming of "the Last inch" with "Lenfilm".

The transfer of Rubashkin specific life experiences in a characteristic art manner of primitivism was the reason for the inclusion of his name in the world encyclopedia of naive art.

In may 1975 at the Leningrad House of cinema was held the personal exhibition Rubashkin closed the week by order of the representatives of the regional Committee of the CPSU.

Two months later, the artist did not.

Rubashkin works are kept in museums and private collections in USA, Russia, Israel.
