"Accusatory force, writes art historian E. Gromov, the portrait of Stalin is comparable only with the poem of Osip Mandelstam ("We live under him not sensing the country..."). The artist Rublev, one time completely forgotten, I did not plan this as a satirical portrait. But understand that it can end up in the GULAG. Stalin Rublev does not have "the broad breast of the Ossetian". He would like razinkina serpentine figure, which seems to be something diabolical, he's just as scary, insidious, evil. Rublev, according to the memoirs of his son, is not going to create a satirical piece. The artist was fond of then Pirosmani, in the manner which he painted this portrait. Wrote and frightened out the picture of the grotesque" (E. Gromov, Stalin: power and art. M., 1998. P. 272; Fig. on the tab). Portrait found in an old canvas Rublev after his death. Now the picture is exhibited in the branch of the Tretyakov gallery on the Crimean embankment.
