Alexander Borisovich Serebryakoff (Alexander Serebryakoff) - Painter, graphic artist, designer, theater artist, son of the artist Z. E. Serebryakova.
In his work he followed the artistic tradition of the masters of the “World of Art” association. He created chamber-like works of character, characterized by miniature letters, stylized images, the predominance of the graphic beginning over the picturesque, decorative color scheme. Like the artists of the World of Art, he worked mainly in watercolor.
Alexander spent his childhood in St. Petersburg and in the Neskuchnoe estate. He did not receive a systematic art education; he studied mainly on his own. In 1925 he went abroad and, after a series of relocations, settled with his mother in Paris.
In 1926 he performed a series of geographical maps as a decorative design for temporary exhibitions at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris.
In 1928 he successfully made his debut at the exhibition of Russian artists in the gallery of the Forester. Later he participated in many group exhibitions in Parisian galleries, and exhibited his works in Prague and Brussels.
In 1931, after the end of the Colonial Exhibition in Paris, he wrote a series of large decorative panels for the Parisian Colonial Museum.
In 1934–1935 he was engaged in interior decoration of the mansion of Baron Brouwer near Brussels with his mother, Z. Serebryakova. He painted watercolor landscapes of Paris, worked on scenography with A.N. Benois and Christian Berard, under the direction of the artist P.N. Schildknecht worked as a decorator for French cinema, illustrated and designed books for French, American and Belgian publishers - Our France. Album for children (1934); "Wreath". Poems by Lolly Lvov (1938); “Twilight of the Gods” (1938), collaborated in fashion magazines. In 1941, together with the architect Emilio Terry, he worked on the decoration of individual interiors and park pavilions of the Château de Grusset castle near Versailles, which belonged to the famous collector of the Spanish cultural attache Carlos de Bestegi. In the postwar years, he worked on interior projects during the restructuring and updating of museums and wealthy mansions. He masterfully performed illusory wall paintings with images of bookcases and porcelain collections.
In 1946 he designed the ballet La Sylphide by J. Schneitzhofer staged by V. Gzovsky for The Ballet of the Champs Elysees. Together with A. N. Benoit, he performed illustrations for the poem by A. A. Popov, Grigory Orlov. In 1950 he designed the ballet Giselle by A. Adan (the production was not carried out).
In 1951 he painted about forty watercolors depicting scenes from a grandiose costume ball hosted by Carlos de Bestega at the Palazzo Labia in Venice. In 1969 he created a series of works depicting various episodes of the Eastern Ball given by Baron Alexis de Rede at the Hotel Lambert on the island of St. Louis in Paris. Subsequently he painted, where with documentary accuracy he depicted the interiors of famous private castles and palaces in France, England and Austria (for example, the interiors of Dichli Castle, located near Oxford).
In 1985, a joint retrospective exhibition of the works of A. B. Serebryakov and his sister E. B. Serebryakova took place in Paris. In 1987, a retrospective exhibition of the artist's works was held at Didier Aaraon Gallery in New York.
