Vladimir
Ivanovich Sokolov

Russia • 1872−1946

Born in the city of Kasimov, Ryazan province. He studied at the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture. Since 1902 settled permanently in Sergiev Posad, finding in it a kind of beauty, the source for inspiration.

His first student film was presented at the exhibition the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture in 1893. He was a student of I. I. Levitan, and his works of the late XIX — early XX century bore the traces of the natural influence of the great Russian landscape painter. The artist's works of this time were imbued with subtle lyricism and filled with a special "scenic" silence.

The subjects of paintings V. I. Sokolova has changed little in the years of Soviet power. He is still close to inconspicuous nooks, a small Russian cities (Rostov, Murom, Sergiev Posad). The contribution of V. I. Sokolov, pure painting would have been much greater if not for his wide artistic interests. It was a remarkable schedule, and also a talented master of applied arts.
