The son of theater usher, that is, from "predominately children", the future famous artist-mosaic artist Egor Grigorievich Solntsev was given in an Educational school at the Academy of fine arts. It turns out that the musical activities of his father transformed into the son's artistic ability. In 1837 Egor received a small, and in 1838 a large silver medal for landscape works. In 1839 E. Solntsev finishes Academy with the title of artist XIV class and with a sword.
