"From predominately children." In 1839 graduated from the Academy of arts with the title of artist XIV class. In 1847 he entered the Studio of mosaic offices in Rome to explore mosaic art. In 1851 was appointed artist-mosaic artist at Mosaic branch of the Academy of fine arts. In 1861, promoted to senior artists and mosaicists. In 1862 was appointed to execute the office of warden of the smal.

The son of theater usher, that is, from "predominately children", the future famous artist-mosaic artist Egor Grigorievich Solntsev was given in an Educational school at the Academy of fine arts. It turns out that the musical activities of his father transformed into the son's artistic ability. In 1837 Egor received a small, and in 1838 a large silver medal for landscape works. In 1839 E. Solntsev finishes Academy with the title of artist XIV class and with a sword. In 1842, for the painting "View in the environs of the city at sunset with the herd grazing in the distance," presented at the academic exhibition, E. G. Solntsev was awarded a small gold medal. The fame of the young landscape painter grew, and when St. Isaac's Cathedral took the execution of mosaic works, under the personal instruction of Emperor Nicholas I in the mosaic workshop of the Vatican sent four Russian artists. E. G. Solntsev was one of them. Four years later they returned to St. Petersburg are ready not only marked the beginning of a mosaic branch of the Academy of arts, but also made it one of the best in the world. In 1861 E. G. Solntsev became a senior artist, mosaic artist, in 1862 — the General overseer of the smal. In his landscapes there was also a new theme — types of Italy.
