Biography and information

Member of the Russian Academy of arts (2007). Member of the Union of artists of the USSR (1969). Laureate of the State prize of the Russian Federation in the field of art (2002).

He studied at the Moscow secondary art school (1957-1962).

In 1968 he graduated from Moscow state art Institute. V. I. Surikov. Teachers: M. A. Gritsai, D. D. Zhilinsky, S. N. Shilnikov.

Since 1966 takes part in all-Union, zone, Republican and international exhibitions: 1981 - Moscow, 1982 - Venice, Cologne, Aachen, 1984, Poznan, Poland, 1986 - Duisburg, Aachen,1987 - joint exhibition with A. Collinum in Podolsk, 1987 - Denmark, Moscow, Edinburgh, London, 1989 - personal exhibition in Central house of artists, Moscow,1990 - Saint-Petersburg,1991 - international auction to benefit the victims of Chernobyl (programme of UNESCO), France, Italy;

1990 - 1991 - art exhibition "Washington - Moscow", Moscow - State Tretyakov gallery, Washington, DC - the Carnegie Library;

1992 - joint exhibition with A. Collinum in the gallery, Oslo, Norway,1992 - Ljubljana, Slovakia, 1994 - joint exhibition with A. Collinum in the State Tretyakov gallery (Moscow), 1995 - Moscow,1997 Museum of fine arts. Pushkin, Moscow.

Was born in 1943. at the station Arys in the Uzbek SSR during the evacuation. In 1957 1962гг. he studied at the Moscow secondary art school. Participates in exhibitions since 1966. In 1968. he graduated from the Moscow state art Institute. V. I. Surikov, where he studied with A. M. Gritsai, D. D. Zhilinsky and S. N. Shilnikova. In 1969. he joined the Union of artists of the USSR. In 1965-1985. besides painting was engaged in scenography in musical theaters in the country. In 1989. started working in the field of ecclesiastical art. In the year 2000. awarded the State prize of the Russian Federation. In 2001. became a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of arts. In 2003. awarded the medal of the Russian Orthodox Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh. In 2004. she was awarded the gold medal of the Russian Academy of arts.

Works are in State Tretyakov gallery, State Russian Museum, the State Museum of musical culture named Glinka State Museum of history of Moscow, in the Moscow Museum of modern art, the Museum of modern art Ludwig in Cologne, the New gallery, Aachen, Slovak national gallery and in art museums of Russian cities, Vologda, Ivanovo, Omsk, Tomsk, Yaroslavl and in private collections in UK, USA, Italy, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Austria, Germany, Russia and other countries.
