Biography and information

Born in 1908 in Poltava (Ukraine). In 1925 A. staritskaya went to France for the treatment of tuberculosis of the bones. All his life the artist suffered from the effects of this disease, but it did not affect the painting. In 1926, Anna enrolled at the Art Academy in Sofia in the next five years received an academic education. After moving to Paris in 1952 dramatically changed the manner of painting. In the works of this time still restraint and elegance left; on the canvases A. Staritsa appear spontaneous, vibrant combinations of colors, United in abstract works. Since the late 1950s, the artist completely trusts his intuition, instinct, she is obsessed with the desire to work. She creates poem-objects, perfects the technique of collage, engraving on zinc, copper, stone, linoleum, prepares collections of poetry to his friends, drawing pen, is engaged in the processing of wood. In the last decade of the artist's life, in the 1970-ies, in her work thematically dominated by demonology: figures of sorcerers, spirits with uncertain contours, representing the phenomena of ancient Slavic mythology.
