Born in Tiflis. He studied at the Azerbaijan art workshops of the People's Commissariat for Education (graduated in 1920) and VKHUTEMAS (1920-1921).
He worked in the field of font, book design and illustration, magazine graphics. He participated in exhibitions since 1927. Gold and silver medals at the International Book Art Exhibition (IBA) in Leipzig (1959), silver medal at IBA-65. Gutenberg Prize of the Leipzig City Council (1963). He died in Moscow.
