Nicholas Khristenko was born in 1897 in Bykovo-Farms on the banks of the lower Volga, Astrakhan lips.

In 1913, he successfully passed the exam in the art school in Kazan, which was in charge of the Russian Imperial Academy of arts and was equipped with very good teachers. After graduating from the Art Institute in 1922, Nicholas was on the path of a professional artist and artist-teacher. He was an educator and teacher in a secondary school, is in charge of the red army Studio pattern and circles of young people working in fine art, lecturing on plastic anatomy at the headquarters of the reserve of the red Army in Kazan. He at the same time is the participant of many art exhibitions both in the USSR and abroad.

In the feverish time of the revolution and the days oroscopo movement Nikolai Pavlovich was one of the most active supporters of the realist school in art and his promoter both in Kazan and in Moscow, where he moved in 1924, the Struggle against formalism and deniers of easel painting, the struggle for realism passed to a higher stage of improvement of the quality of the merits of the artist and craftsman.

The first exhibition, where Nicholas presented their work was in the city of Kazan in the year 1922-23, and then in Moscow at the exhibition "Revolution, life and labour" in 1925. A number of paintings of Nikolai Pavlovich wrote on the Caucasus and Dagestan: "Wedding in the village of Dagestan", "Orjonikidze and Nazaretyan among partisans in the Caucasus", "Osoaviakhim in the Caucasus", "Kumychka", "Leader of pioneers". These works were exhibited at exhibitions and reproduced in print, the painting "Wedding in the village of Dagestan" was on one of the shows in Germany.

To the Caucasian period is the painting "Voroshilov and Budyonny after the hunt". Materials and sketches for the painting Nikolay Pavlovich gathered in the hunting grounds near the city of Nalchik in the Caucasus in 1930-31 For the jubilee exhibition of the red army, he executed the portrait of K. E. Voroshilov. The exploration of the North pole, Nikolai Pavlovich wrote a portrait of the pilot Levanevsky. The painting "the Drums of the tractor factory in Stalingrad" was executed on the instructions of the cooperative camaraderie that was exhibited in the Museum. A. S. Pushkin in 1938 (published in press).

The painting "the Retreat of the Germans", "the Commissioner leads a squad into battle", "Attack partisans in Western Ukraine" was carried out on the instructions of the Museum of revolution of USSR in Moscow in 1942-44. the Big picture - panel "session of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR" was performed by the authors: G. K. Savitsky, A. V. Moravov and N. P. Khristenko on the instructions of governmental bodies for the international exhibition in new York (the size of the picture-panels - 13x8. 5 m the year 1939).

In the period from 1921 to 1931 were Soberania artistic material to create the panorama "Sturm Perekop". The panorama was published in a special collection with a rather complete annotation. Central 30-meter spherical painting, "the storming of the Turkish shaft" and all the assembled authors, G. K. Savitsky, V. B. Uranuim and N. P. Khristenko art-historical material were massacred by Nazi troops in Simferopol, where he exhibited the panorama.

From 1948 to 1953 Nicholas taught drawing and headed the Department of academic drawing at MVHPU (b. Stroganov), his educational activities and methodical orientation proceeded from a fundamentally realistic attitudes in the visual arts.
