Description of the artwork «The game of hide and seek»

"He that seeketh shall find" (or "Kas-kas" - hide and seek) – this is the start renowned as a master of creating an amazing modern things that may not be understood by all, but somehow fascinating.

The theme of birth as a miracle was close Chelisheva - artist-adept of the mystical worldview. But this work was not simply an expression of a "philosophy in colors", and a live reaction to a real event in his family — the birth of a nephew.

World tree — a mother's bosom, framed by Golden leaves - "burning" the heads of children. They like coming for the icon, looking at the great miracle. Female figure, disappearing into the depths of the shaft — most likely the image of the mother, giving himself, sacrificing himself and vanish into a new life. This is evidenced by the autumn colouring of the painting: autumn is the time of decay, completing the life cycle. And then out of the blackness of the tree-womb, pushing huge hands, has a newborn. His red body tense incredibly naturalistic, with a huge head and tiny feet, riddled with a grid of vessels.

14 years after the creation of the painting Chelishchev'll write my sister, Barbara Zarudny that the baby in the picture is not just born of man and a new life, but a symbol of the continuation of his kind. The author himself had no children.

The painting was first exhibited in new York, and she made an incredible impression. Visitors stood near it for hours, and she is particularly interested in children. The newborn hero of the canvas Konstantin Kedrov, who later became poet metaforizma, wrote about the picture of his great-grandfather: "There was a crowd of kids and spent hours watching all the new baby figurines hidden in the foliage and bark of the world tree". Here in the neighborhood at that time was presented "Guernica" Picasso but, despite the obvious popularity of the author of this epoch-making work, the attention is caught, "he that seeketh shall find".

Name of the painting is a fragment of the gospel of Christ's words: "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek and you will find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you; for everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it shall be opened" (Matt. 7:7,8). It is possible to interpret the role of this phrase in understanding the picture. At the forefront can be himself and andré, which is found with the expected and at the same time, so suddenly happened event as the birth of a child. Also, perhaps "he who seeks finds" is the baby in search of a start in life, which finds its most natural and magical at the same time by.

The work "he that seeketh shall find" or "Kas-kas", kept in the Museum of modern art in new York.
