Paul A. Chernov is one of the leading masters of painting of Kuzbass. The oldest artist of Kuzbass, he was at the forefront of the development of art Kuznetskiy region and its role in this process unique. His fate largely typical of the artist, but an exceptional one for the Kuzbass artists of the first generation. Exceptional in the sense that he was the first local artists received higher professional education in such a famous Institute as the Leningrad Institute of painting, sculpture, architecture. Repin.

In the early 50-ies the artist pays much attention to genre motifs. His genre paintings are saturated with light and air, not by chance already in his early works he often uses the motif of the open window - providing access for flow of freshness into the room. However, a significant place in the early works of P. A. Chernova is a portrait. Chernoff's skill as a portraitist, largely determined by its ability to preserve the dominant psychological expressiveness of the face, subtly to convey the inner state of the characters

At the turn of the 1950s and 1960s in the General development of Soviet art there is a marked change, comes a new generation of young artists with a new attitude to tradition, are determined by the problems of the so-called "severe style". But in the development of creativity Chernov was not a sharp change of style. Being always a supporter of the narrative plot, revealing character through individual features, the artist increasingly in the 60-ies drawn to the still life in the 1940s – 50s years , as a genre, has been forgotten. Chernov still life with a new force confirmed his skill in the layout of the picture, his gift as an artist-colorist. In the late 1980s - 1990s years, a significant place in the work occupied the landscape. The artist painted aboriginal motifs, conveying the features and condition of Siberian nature ("a dismal day. Makarak" 1986; "morning on the river Salomei" 1989). Exceptional is the landscape "Spring garden" (1993), created in line with the decorative traditions. Vibrant colorful surface forms a kind of picturesque mosaic that captures the sensation of the dazzling spring bloom.

Creative journeys : the House of creativity "Academic dacha". I. E. Repin (1952, 1953); The Gornaya Shoria (1953).
