Description of the artwork «"Winter landscape" (expert opinion)»

Kapustin Grigory Ivanovich
(1865 - 1925)
Landscape painter, marine painter

Painting G. Kapustina "Winter Landscape" in 1914, the size of the frame 38 x 50 cm, the size of the picture 16 x 26.5 cm, baguette width 12 cm, baguette thickness 7 cm, wood frame, molding, gilding, made to order by famous Kharkov artist- restorer Varibrus Yevgeny Nikolayevich.

The picture is written on cardboard of that time, there is an author's fingerprint in the middle of the fence, this technique is typical for a true student of Ivan Aivazovsky, who resorted to this method of his identification in particularly significant works.

Perhaps the picture shows the house where Grigory Ivanovich Kapustin lived.

The picture is interesting with a rare plot of winter, representing a special value, since G. Kapustin mainly wrote marinas.

There is an opinion of art experts that Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky saw himself very poorly in the last years of his life and almost did not paint a picture; he only put his signature on the work done by Grigory Ivanovich Kapustin.

With the help of this fingerprint of Grigori Ivanovich, further attribution of IK Aivazovsky’s paintings as the works of Grigori Kapustin is possible.
