The artist, academician of the Academy of arts.

Son of the Sexton. He graduated from the Saratov theological Seminary, studied at school OH in 1848 In 1850 received the title of a free artist; in 1854, the title of academician for the portrait of Bishop Macarius. In 1857-1864. painter of the Russian ecclesiastical mission in Beijing. She created a picture of the "Chinese poor out in the cold" (1859, the state Tretyakov gallery), portraits of Chinese officials, the sketches of traditional types.

In 1870 was passed a master in the craft of the scenic workshop in St. Petersburg.

He lived in St. Petersburg, and Saratov. Paintings are in state Russian Museum, state Tretyakov gallery, the museums of Nizhny Novgorod, Saratov.
