Born in Bezhetsky uyezd.

He studied at the Moscow Stroganov school of technical drawing, in 1870 he entered the Academy of fine arts. In 1879 he received the title of class artist 1-th degree for the program "the Adulteress before Christ".

During training received medals: in 1874 - 2 silver; in 1875 - 2 silver; in 1876, two 1 silver; in 1878 - 2 gold for the program "Abraham banishes from the house of Agar with her son Ishmael". (Kondakov)
